LEGAL AND FINANCIAL TRANSLATIONS
Legal translation requires highly developed specialised knowledge; wording for this type of document is very exact and must have no ambiguity. Furthermore, given that law is such a culture-dependent issue, legal translation is not an easy task. Precision is vital. Our translators not only understand legal terminology but also have knowledge of common and civil law legal systems used throughout the world.
All translations are performed by a specialist mother tongue linguist with five years experience in full-time translation. All hold advanced law degrees and have previously worked as lawyers or have an extensive legal background. Full profiles of our translators, detailing their experience, are available upon request.
We understand that confidentiality and accuracy are of paramount importance, which is why we impose the most stringent quality controls. Our vast experience in this highly specialised field has earned us the reputation of linguistic excellence.
Certified Translations
Since our translators are fully qualified and experienced, we are able to supply a letter accompanying a translation to certify that the work has been completed by an appropriately qualified expert. In some cases, this is deemed acceptable. We make no further charge over and above the cost of the translation to supply a certifying letter.
Notary costs vary depending on the notary. Translators also need to be reimbursed for their travel costs and for the time they spend going to the notary. They normally charge an hourly rate for this. You must also take into account the costs of returning any original documents to you by recorded or registered post.
Proofreading
This service is highly recommended for legal documents and those intended for publication.
The translation is carefully proofread by a second independent and fully qualified mother tongue linguist. The proofreader checks each part of the text against the original to ensure translation is accurate from a technical and linguistic point of view. This involves correcting any errors in terminology, spelling and grammar.
Any changes made during this stage are discussed and reviewed by all linguists involved in the assignment.
Output
We have the capacity to translate approximately 20,000 words a week on any one assignment, but pride ourselves on our ability to meet any realistic deadline. We offer a same day translation service for urgent documents in all major European and Asian languages.
Glossaries
All translators have access to translation memories, dictionaries and terminologies, ensuring translation is both accurate and consistent across even the largest of projects.
The use of Translation Memory Software (such as SDL & TRADOS) allows our translators to create a linguistic database during the process of translation. So, if the same or similar source text is encountered in future translation work, our translators have the previously translated phrase at their fingertips. This ensures consistency in the use of terms, increased productivity and cost savings.
To ensure consistency, we aim to use the same translation team in future projects. Glossaries are routinely compiled and any necessary research is undertaken.
